Oh I know it is a job babe...I have the same one. Think about it you are a full time maid, nanny, chef, landscaper, and sex factory....and you are paid nothing for it ......yeah it is the hardest and least appreciated job ever. But I think of it this way. I am paid every day in love from my son and my husband. That makes it all worth it. Plus my hubby treats me well and appreciates me so it is all good.
People who think it isnt a job are ignorant!

People that don't know what all you do always think its easy and that they can do it better than you. I think that goes for every job out there.
And I agree. Being a homemaker is the hardest job in the world, and the most underpaid - you are not paid at all!
Let's think this through -
House cleaner
Baby sitter
Teacher
Chef
Answering Service
Chauffeur
Seamstress
Financial manager
Entertainer
Gardener
Nurse
Those are just some of the jobs that my mother performed, and she wasn't even a stay at home mom. She had a full time job, to boot.
I'll say it for all of those that won't - homemakers are the most valuable asset that this country has. Go give yours a hug right now. I know that I will!

It's not fair, but it probably does have to do with the fact that it is not paid with a salary or hourly wage or anything. It has always been taken for granted that women do the work of keeping up the home and probably for that reason it has not been recognized as a valuable contribution. I'm afraid it's the kind of thing that some people only miss when it's gone. Nowadays many people see being a homemaker as a luxury because it is getting harder for families to live on just one salary. Did you see that study that calculated what kind of salary a homemaker should be paid if you added up all the professions she had to take on? I can't find it right now, but it was really interesting.

I don't think that at all. I just never had the luxury of being able to be a homemaker only. I always had to be in the work force. I know you work very hard to make a nice home and I envy you.

I'm a homemaker. I have 5 kids. I would need a job outside of the home just for a vacation! LOL

Because they have never done the job. That's what I do also, plus my mom lives with me and I take care of her. My sister read an article about women how stay at home and if you add up everything we do we would make over $147000.00 a year if we were to get paid. That would be nice wouldn't it.

I think homemakers, female or male, have a very important and hard job to do. Anyone who disregards raising children as anything less than hard work is uninformed. I don't think you should be paid for raising your own children though. It was your choice to have them, therefore your job.

tradition. male hunts, slays the food, takes it back to the cave, woman has to help if not do alone in preparing the dead animal. then the 1950's happened. and pearls and heels were the odd bedfellows for cleaning the house and making cookies and pot roasts.... which was a clever attempt in masking the hard toil people did to make ends meet.
those who feel/think/believe a mom doesn't work haven't a clue what it's all about. that's as absurd as claiming farmers have the easy life in a big open space..... people who work hard are the ones who keep this often lost society moving. soo, booohisss to naysayers!

That's exactly why- most don't think of it as a job because you're not paid. Our society tend to measure success in terms of wealth and prosperity- not happiness. If you have kids, I agree, it's probably the hardest and most important job there is.
