nothing, it's just like before you were born.

Different cultures and faiths have different opinions about it... i once saw a tv program which had done some research on the people who had had real-death experiences... most of them said they had felt they were moving very fast... not exactly like flying, but just moving fast as if they were in a spacecraft... they pass through a dark tunnel, at the end of the tunnel, they saw great light...
some of the people said that they saw the GODS, Angels, heaven, hell, etc. i think it depends on the cultural orientation of the person who experienced it. different cultures have different takes on Gods, Angels, Heaven and Hell... these people said things that they believed on... depending on their own culture and beliefs... but the spiralling, dark tunnel and lights... were mostly common for all the people, irrespective of their beliefs.
Then there is another school of though that you actually never find out that you are dead... so you keep doing the same thing that you were doing... which is more explained by the ghosts and spirits who are still trapped in this world without knowing that they are dead... or knowing they are dead, but they have not gone anywhere... they are still right here...
Other than this, it is very difficult to say what happens after death.. maybe we will only be able to find out when we die....

Roman Catholic doctrine teaches that when you die, your soul separates from your body.
You then go through what theologians call "temporary judgment." This is the reckoning of your life's actions before God.
Based on that judgment, your soul goes to Heaven for eternal reward, Hell for eternal punishment, or (maybe) Purgatory for temporary punishment.
(You could get into a huge discussion here on salvation through Jesus by faith alone or faith in Jesus being a reason you can choose to do good works. Or you could confuse things even more with arguments about predestination versus free will. But that's a whole separate story.)
At the end of the world is your "Final Judgment." God raises you back to life and reunites your body and soul. Then you receive your ultimate reward of eternal life, body and soul, or your eternal punishment.
Note that there's little or no detail in official Catholic teaching about what Heaven and Hell are like except that Heaven is eternity with God and Hell is eternity without God.
One unofficial explanation of Hell is that God doesn't "send" you there, but because of the way you lived, you choose to stay as far away from the Divine Presence as possible after you die. (Check out the C.S. Lewis book "The Great Divorce" for an interesting and sometimes humorous take on this viewpoint.)

It's truly amazing to me how many different perspectives there are on this topic. My opinion is based on a life time of religious study and personal experiences. I have seen an elderly grandmother transition from life to death and in the process she was greeted by angels. One being her husband who died 30 years before she did. He came to get her 2 days before she died. I did not see him but I know he was there. She had been bed ridden and almost unconsious for 2 days and she sat up like she was kissing someone and I asked her if she was kissing her sweetheart and she said,"Yes, but not yet." He was there with her to get her when she died.
The other experience was 5 years ago when my brother's 6 month old son passed away from SIDS...Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. While they were in the hospital and he was hooked up to life support he came to visit my brother and told him it was ok to let him go, that he was ok and he would see him later.
I totally believe these things are a symbol that life does continue after mortal death. It also tells us in the Bible that Jesus died so that we may live again. That doesn't mean here on earth, it means in the hereafter. We will, contrary to some postings, be reunited with our bodies in the resurrection. We will be made whole. Everyone gets resurrected whether they were good or bad while they were alive on earth.
It is the great and dreadful day of judgement the Bible talks about that determines where you go after you die. For more information, talk to a local clergy member or go to:

Funny you asked this question. I was deep in thought on this subject just last night. Here's my answer.
I don't have a clue as to what happens. But as hard as I try, I can't picture what nothingness is. I don't understand how a conscious being could just not exist anymore. It's a scary thought. But once you're dead, if there is just nothing, you wont know the difference. It wont even be black. Just non-existence. That doesn't make any sense to me. So, I'm thinking you continue somehow. I don't have a clue to as how or where you go. Nobody does. They'll tell you they know but they don't. The only reason to fear death is the unknown.

Almost immediately after death the body evacuates itself,,, though you'll never see that on "HOUSE" If in fact there is a soul or energy force that continues after the end of life,,, it usually tries to escape, before the "Evacuation."
Soon after any unsuccessful attempts as reviving the body, there is paper work that has to be filled out, if the person happened to die in a hospital.
Sometimes there are tears shed by loved ones. Sometimes cursing can be heard, praying perhaps, even kids playing, who don't quite get it.
At some point after there may be squabbles about who gets what?

Death is but a door way. When a human dies they are no longer aware of what is going on, on this earth. The Spirit of man is taken back to the creator and shelved until judgment or if it is faithful it is changed and no longer Correctable.
(1Cr 15:52) In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
It like a black Box ( flight recorder) It tells all at judgment.
(Ecc 9:5) For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
(Pro 20:27) The spirit of man [is] the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.
(Ecc 3:21) Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?
(1Cr 2:11) For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
So what of Gosts and spirits we say haunt us?
(Luk 11:24) When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out.
They are deceptions from a Mighty Spirit but not mightier than God. You know whom I am talking about.

I believe it depends whether you are conscious of your death or not. If you're not you will stay in a state of limbo until you see the light and realize you no longer have your body. If you are conscious your spirit then gets judged of its rights and wrongs one did in this life time. Then once the balance has been measured you then prepare your self for another mission. Reincarnation, you will then be born and start all over.Peace and love be with you.

physically the heart ceases to beat and pump blood to various parts of the human body. even the brain goes dead as there is no supply of blood to it. simply put body mixes with the elements. goes where it came from, that is dust.
soul, now this is the most intriguing topic. what happens to the soul when we die is a matter of belief and faith. different schools of thought put forward different ideas about after life. for a christian there is an assurance that there will be eternal life because of one divine act by a great Man almost 2000 years back. this act made sure that all sins of mankind are forgiven and washed away. one need to just believe in this great Man and be saved from eternal damnation in hell. "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God". "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. Who ever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life." this is the assurance i am talking about. this is a free gift to all. "Ask and you shall receive".

You loose your body and emerge into another dimension
as energy,but with intelligence
you will not remember anything that relates to your body, such as what race you are.and you will have trouble remembering your gender.
your body stays behind and rots and should return to the organic system,to complete the circle of life to death to life
Take Amanita Pantherina the mushroom of death and you find out all about this
