I am looking for anyone that works with the elderly to anwer a few questions about their job.

What is your title?
What education is required to work in your line of work?
Are there any other prerequisites?
Are there entry-level positions?
What is a typical day like?
What is the most satisfying about your position?
Is there a high demand for your field?
What is a typical entry-level salary?

Any input on this will be helpful.

Thanks!

I don't directly work with the elderly, but I am a Recruiter and hire people to work with the elderly - Certified Nursing Assistants for a long term care facility. Our Certified Nursing Assistants are union positions. They start at $10.82 per hour. If it's an evening position they receive an $0.90 per hour evening differential. If it's a night shift they receive a $1.20 shift differential. They pay $45.50 per month in union dues. Our benefits are great - medical, dental, vision, life, etc. at very competitive rates. We do not require anything other than state certification, but do prefer previous experience. Our shifts run Mon - Fri, 8 hours or Sat & Sun 12 hour shifts. If you work the weekends, you receive a $35 bonus for each day. There is a high demand, because turn-over is high. It's a hard job - low pay for all of the demands. A typical day would be helping residents with activities of daily living, i.e., grooming, dressing, eating, etc., recreational and social activities. In addition, they assist licensed personnel by helping with vital signs, etc. A CNA must be kind, compassionate and caring. Also, being able to deal with becoming attached to others and having them pass. I hope this information helps you some.
