Am very ashamed about this. I am soooo scared about this blood test. Really need words of support. I know it is only a tiny procedure. But it terriffies me, and is my worst fear.

I'm not worried about the pain. It's just the needle, veins, and blood which really frek me out. eek.

How can i get through this test calmly? I know my fear is stupid, but i really need advice on how to stay calm

I'm freaked out by needles too but it never hurts even though I always think it will. I just had to give blood last weekend and it just felt like a very little pinch, no pain at all. Don't worry about it, just breath deep and look away. You'll be fine!

I know how scary these types of things can be, I had to learn to give my daughter(s) shots when they were diagnose as Type 1 diabetics at the ages of 9 yrs old. And before I could give them the shot or prick their fingers, I had to do it to myself first; a few times. That was hard & scary but at least I knew I had to do it~for them! All I can think of to tell you~is try to think of something else: something wonderful that is happening or has happened, or something that worries or scares you even more than the blood test. You might ask if you could listen to something on ear phones while having the test done~music, audio book, inspirational message, etc. If you are Christian~be sure to pray about it.
No your fear is not stupid!! It is quite normal for some people to be leary of shots, needles or anything to do with blood, so get rid of that thought completely. I wish you the best of luck!!

I would like to add a reply to No Name: if anyone should be ashamed it is You~no wonder you don't give your name!!! Here this person is asking for help and you have to be an *** about it, that's so rude & mean!

I would say it is a normal fear that people have so you should not be ashamed. Everything will be fine. I would say have a friend or family member come in with you so you have someone to talk to and look away even when they a preparing everything. If no one is available tell the person who is taking the blood how you feel and ask if there is someone available you can talk to for the moment. GOOD LUCK! and you will do fine

I am an E.M.T. at a plasma center so my job is to calm people just like you, the best advise I can give you, if your that freaked out about it is don't look, it will be over before you even realize it.
If your going to pass out it will be from the sight of your own blood. Let your phlebotomist know about your fears they should help you get through it.
Good Luck, You Will Be Fine.

Don't look! Start a conversation with the technician about the weather or a movie or anything. Bring you iPod, listen to it. Watch a movie.

Tell the tech you are scared, it is nothing to be embarrassed about, many people are scared of needles, they understand.

Just relax and figure it will be over shortly,

I can somehow relate to how you are feeling. I am not afraid of blood tests, but they are always extremely uncomfortable for me and many times I have nearly passed out.

I also want you to know that I am glad you asked your question to all of us here on answers. You don't need to be ashamed of your shortcomings, we all have them!

I would suggest that you let the person who is drawing your blood know the way you feel. And DON'T LOOK while they are doing it! I know from experience that makes it worse!!!

Many people are afraid of needles. I got over my fear after having a Tattoo. I am ok with taking blood as long as I don't look at what they are doing. If I look, I feel sick.

The extra the improve, the extra stress. jointly as youre waiting for the wellbeing practioner to work out you, think of approximately calming suggestions or play a interest on your telephone or study a mag which you like. jointly as youre doing this confirm you're taking sluggish, deep breaths and repeat issues like "it's going to be ok" or "it particularly is over speedy" or something else that calms you once you sense a surge of stress. in simple terms comprehend that the actual adventure is speedy and painless. to evade feeling soreness whilst that's actual being executed: whilst the wellbeing practioner is counting down take some deep breaths and whilst it actual is going in take a protracted, sluggish elementary breathe out (this methodology is used via piercers and it rather works nicely for needle gauges plenty bigger than what you will adventure). stress comes from continous concern so decrease your demanding suggestions as much as obtainable. yet maximum critically, it's going to be ok and it particularly is over at as quickly as (repeat if mandatory) :)

First of all: do not watch them when they do the blood test.

Secondly, think about something pleasant and refuse to give in to the trauma.

Imagine if you were a soldier in Iraq and things could be a whole lot worse than a little pin prick.
