I started this job last week, about a week and a half ago. It is nothing like it was described to be, a lot of menial tasks and heavy lifting and cashier work when I was hired as a designer (I have a degree in art). Also, I really can't stand one of my co workers who is abusive and rude.

So I am applying for this other job and I am wondering:

1. will 2nd new job (if I get it) think it a negative thing that I only last a week or two at first job? (better to realize it now than after a year, right?)

2. Do I need to even mention it if they don't ask (not to lie but just don't explain it if not asked)

also should I not mention the rude co worker at all? how about to my boss if he asks why I am leaving, should I say a) I have a better offer, and b)Coworker X and I don't get along ?

i once had a job... which i quit the SAME day.
it was NOTHING like they described it to be.
i have not mentioned it to any employers. there is no way they can find out unless you tell them.

just mention other jobs.
if they ask anything about THAT job, just reply to them "well, i wasn't there long enough before i quit, so i figured it was pointless to talk about it, specially since the job description was completely different than what they actually had me do."
you ca always say that you wanted a more challenging job, hich is not bad at all! :)

do not consider yourself as a quiter, when you instead are an achiever! :)

I think if the new job asks then tell them that the job was not as it was described to you and leave it at that. It's a fact. I would not mention the abusive and rude co-worker that's hearsay, not factual. Yes, it is better to realize it now rather than after a year. I took a new job and lasted six weeks. I just had this uncontrollable urge to run out the door and never look back. Turns out they were in deep financial trouble and ended up getting rid of almost everyone. Trust your instincts.

Oh and your current boss - just tell him you have another offer, no need to burn a bridge.

You could just leave it off your resume, as long as you have prior job history which lasted a reasonable length of time.

If you do mention the current job, pretty much any prospective employer would understand that if the job is nothing like it was described to you, you're not likely to stay. They wouldn't likely hold it against you unless they're doing the same thing, in which case you sure don't want to get involved with them.

I wouldn't mention the rude co-worker - they might think it's YOU who doesn't get along with people.

Don't mention it unless you have already spoken to someone in the prospective company about it. You can spin this in your direction by stating that within a few weeks you know the compnay cuture and position were not a right "fit" with what you plan on pursuing within your career.

10 days is not long enought to mention or even state on your application, unless you are applying to a company that is going to do a high security check or a lie detector test.

Don't quit your job.Punch the co-worker in the mouth,show them that you're the new sheriff in town.If there's still problems hit the boss with a hammer.Always better to give crap than to take it

If you have only been in your new job for a week or two I wouldn't mention it to prospective employers.
