It all depents on the type of trans you have ...Price varies big time between standard and automatic ....Paint jobs can run as little as 300 dollars up to thousands ....... all depends on who does the work and what it is you want done.

A transmission's cost will vary widely as to what transmission it is. $1200. average I would say. Might be better have YOUR transmission re-built.
A paint job. Again depending on the car and what type of paint job you want. $600. average I would say.

Just the questions alone! Carlos the carivoiant "sooth Sayer of cars" says ten + year old car that has been a friend a long time... Wouldn't you look good driving around in a new car? imagine driving in front of the store windows and seeing how great I look in this new car!!! Or just spend $800 for the transmission and $2,000 for a good paint job and wait for the suspension or engine to fail. Or put $ 3,000 down payment on a new car
