well the shoe helps to keep horses from getting absceses and stuff in their hoofs better than without, so i guess you can say it can protect it somewhat, but thats not the only thing the shoe does, all i know is my horse is a brat for the farrier lol.. he is rotten....

That depends - I have one that paws the ground the ENTIRE time she is eating and wears / splits the front of her hoof. However, I do not shoe any of my other horses as they are not exposed to much concrete.

Portects to the best and dresses up the horse. If the horse is on pasture u don't have to shoe them, but if u ride them on trails and rocks, asphalt, then they need to be shoed.
