Im soon to get a baby Beardie. I need to know what temps i should try to keep his cage. i would also like to know what UVB whatt ill need for a 40-50 gallon tank. Other than that i have done lots of reasearch but still am not quite shure if i could take him on a 3 hour car ride once i get him because the closest pet store is so far away.

car rides are fine. It won't phase her/him much. My beardie and my igs went on a 26 hour drive from california to Texas when i moved. The temps should be about 90-110 on his basking spot to digest his food, and 80 on the cool side. the temps can drop as low as about 75 at night. The reptisun 10.0 is a perfect bulb for that size tank. That bulb is about 40 bucks at Petco.
Good Luck!

p.s. baby beardies DO eat veggies. A baby will eat about 25 little crickets a day, and some Collard greens, mustard greens, bell peppers, cucumbers, etc. They get a lot of their nutrients from veggies. And adults eat crickets too. and mealworms, waxworms and superworms. (if you choose to use supers, cut off the head)

40 to 50 gals. tank is plenty big enough. 60 to 75 watt basking lamp is sufficient, they can move around to regulate their body temp. most juvenils eat only insects, but provide some kale dusted with calcium. as they mature they switch to almost all veggie diet, such as kale(no lettuce) diced sweetpotato, tomatos, grapes, etc.
the best lighting is triple bulb hoods 1 for basking,1 for night viewing and heat and 1 for uvb floresent, there around 60 bucks. good luck

Please get some books or care sheets on beardies. They require gradient heat, which means they need a cool (75-80deg) area and a hotter area (90-100). A healthy beardie needs a somewhat complex controlled environment. read read read :)
