No, he should be a gentleman and pay for dinner. He's just being cheap and that experience would let me know not to go out with him again. Enough said.

NO! I am sorry but in this day and age we still want the gentleman to pay on the first date. Its just a way of showing a woman that you are in fact, a man.Remember that we still live in a society that has gender roles very clearly defined. The first date should always be the man's treat no matter who asks who out. the next couple of dates will be a little of both. (provided she is not a money hungry gold digging tramp!). Trust me, its better if you show her a good time. If she is a good woman she will offer later on. Thats when you know you picked a good one!
Good Luck.

No it's not. Unless, they are friends and agree to go dutch.
The same goes for a woman asking a man to dinner. If she asks then she pays.

No.
If the man asked her out, the expected response is he pays for the whole check.

Absolutely not! Whoever asks the other one out should pay 100% (which by the way entitlles you to no more than the pleasure of their company). But If a woman asks me out, I bring a lot of money in case she doesn't know my rule.

I try to pay for my half of the dinner but if the guy asked the girl, then he should be prepared to pay for the whole meal.

I think that, if they are friends and they know each other's circumstances, yes, it is appropriate to expect this. Maybe they want to be together a lot and he cant afford to pay every time.

When an invitation is extended for dinner, unless other plans are made, the person inviting pays.

I do understand the confusion nowadays - but I am old school. The gentleman pays the way...
