maybe you could rock her to sleep. Nurse her to sleep or give her a bottle. But in resopnse to others suggestions.... please dont let your 4 month old cry-it-out. This is a horrible mean method and should be disscouraged. Your baby needs to know that her needs will be met. and when she cries she is telling you she needs something, wheather it be food, love, sleep, attention whatever she needs its your job as a mother to figure it out and give it to her. Crying it out is a harsh thing for a baby or even a todler to have to face. Think about how you would feel, a small innocent child... you wake up in the middle of the night, when you went to sleep it was nice and warm snuggled up to your mommy, now its dark and silent and cold. You start to cry and and nothing you cry louder and still nothing you turn your head from side to side trying to find comfort and still nothing... tired and throat sore from crying you stop for a minute.. still nothing its quiet and dark and your still alone. You start to cry again and still nothing happens. Then finnaly after what seems like forever you cannot poosibly cry any more your wails subside and tears stream down your face... you fall asleep in the silence and alone.. your needs go unmet and your fears more real then ever. Your baby cries for a reasson dont ignore it PLEASE!! My four month old only takes 20 minute naps every 2 hours and has been doing that for 2 months now. Try giving her a bath or rocking her do what ever you need to do but PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT just let her cry-it out feel free to email me if you need support im always available!

she could be overtired or teething...put her down and if she cries, give her a few minutes before rushing in to get her...she just may need to settle in for a few minutes.
Just to add on to what I originally said... I did NOT mean for her to "cry it out"...I've never let my children cry for any extended period of time. I have a 4 1/2 month old now and I have 2 older sons who I have to bring to school and pick up from school and I constantly have to bring her in and out of the car. It can be very disrupting for her sleep. So , when I am home and can give her time to nap in her crib..sometimes she's overtired . Sometimes they need to cry for a minute,... literally 60 seconds. That is not mean. I know alot of people that won't let their baby cry for a second. Its natural for a baby to cry to let out stress when overtired. Ask your doctor...most will say the same. Read Dr Spock's Baby and Childcare section #320 or What to Expect the First Year . At four months you can let them cry for a minute or 2 and some will settle in. If this is not your baby, then pick her up after the minute or 2 and go on with your day!
A 4 month old needs to nap for her well being. If she cannot settle in for a nap at anytime , talk to your doctor, it may be a sign of something else that needs to be addressed.

She's afraid of missing out on the action now that she nows there are other things going on with out her. If she's your only child, I'd suggest making the house as quiet as possible and just lay down with her in your bed. She'll get the message.
