Oh, just tell her that you do not appreciate her attitude and send her to her room. If it bothers you so much, stop riding the short bus to work! LOL

Thank her for the insight and than punish her cause just because you did something wrong doesn't give her the right to talk to you in that manner so simply say "why thank you dear for pointing that out to me and because you were so kind to point out how retarded I am now you can volunteer 25 hours of your time to Help the mentally retarded" and than kiss her on the head and leave the room before she can say anything. And if you can get a picture of her face when you say this to her I would love to see it!

She's a teen, they do stuff like that... Don't punish her too much. She'll probably feel guilty later and apologize, that's what I always do. This probably won't be the last time she says something like this. I think all of the mean stuff me and my twin sister say to my mom just goes in one ear and out the other 'cause she's used to it. But I always apologize anyway... Why did she call you retarded, is there something YOU need to apologize to HER for? If you are fighting then you should apologize to each other when you are both cooled off. That's what always happens between me and my mom.

I think this would depend on the nature of the conversation. was it in anger and out of disrespect or was it just to get a rise out of you? If she was being disrespectful then I would not respect her privacy - take her door off her room and make her earn YOUR respect. If she was trying to get a rise out of you - ignore it - that initself is punoshment to a 13 year old.

Maybe an appropriate punishment would be to go tell her you're taking her out for ice cream then ACT retarded in the ice cream parlor and really embarrass her!! Maybe not politically correct but I'd LOVE to see her face!

Good luck.

OF COURSE! How dare a 13 year old call you a retard? If I called my mom a retard, she would yell at me, ground me, and all that other stuff.

Ask her if she knows what it means. If she says she heard it from someone in the playground, tell her it's rude to bring those manners home.

If she says that's how she feels about you, sit her down & tell her that what she is saying is wrong, & that you are a good mother. She probably said it cos you said something she didn't agree with.

Ground her for a year and then see who's becoming retardedd.

But seriously, talk to her and explain to her it's inappropriate to call people that, especially parents.

What did you do to deserve it anyway?

Thank her for the insight and then ground her!

Lighten up. . .
Did she say it jokingly? Or in a heated arguement?

I'd let it slide by this time... now if she called you the B word,
that's another story.
