Who claim to be rivals with the other cell phone companies, and have all those ads about how the other companies are mad at them, are actually a creation of a partnership of those very same companies? Just FYI. (At least, that's what someone in marketing tells me).

It's a possibility. I don't think they're a cellular provider like Verizon or T-Mobile or Cingular, but a reseller of all of them. Like when Cingular took over AT&T wireless and gave their system to T-Mobile and bought millions of dollars worth of minutes on their old system until they could migrate people from their old network to their new one.

Actually, I have a friend who works for Alltel and that is not true. They are there own cellular company. What you might be thinking of is that when Verizon Wireless was formed in 2000, GTE sold some of it's markets to Alltel since some of the other companies that formed Verizon Wireless already had service in the same areas.
