3 years ago, a 1000 anytime minute plan was $39.99. Now, a typical 1000 anytime minute plan is around $59.99. Should the rate go down as cellular phones become more and more popular, thus creating more competition among providers?

because they gottcha and they know it.many companies have merged so there is less compitition. they run deals amongst thier own companies and try to make it appear that you are getting one hell of a deal. while they are doing this the prices sneak up..not to unlike macdonalds..have you noticed how many two cent increases they have had in the past ten years?? you could control the prices if you could control everyone who used thier service..that can't happen so we are at the mercy(or lack of it) of the phone service.

Technology is different today then it was three years ago. They're trying to push customers towards the technology they heavily invested in. Remember analog? Then came digital, then GSM and now UMTS. It's where they want to put the most people on in their network.
