Like say Mayfair costs like £4.42 and the superkings cost like £4.46. Surely thier losing out a bit seems the extra bits on the superkings would acculmalate to 3-4 cigarettes, with your average cigarette costing approx 20p. Odd question I know but its been bugging me for a few days.

Because tobacco is inexpensive to buy but the tax on superkings is the same as normals. So you get a bit more ciggy for a lot less money. Oh thank you Mr Brown, you whisky-guzzling money-grabbing preachy grasping po-faced hypocritical jock git! Because of your greed my nicotine habit is leading me into bankruptcy! What would happen if I stopped smoking because of the price, eh? I'd have to go on the rampage with a thermo-nuclear bazooka that's what! Is that what you want to happen? Is It? Because that's what'll happen you silly little chancellor of the exchecquer you! And don't get me started on Tony Blair, the sprout faced tw........sorry, what was the question again?

The same reason that coffee shops charge you an extra 20p for a large cup. The extra cost to the manufacturer is negligible but all those extra 4p's in income add up to a hell of a lot of sales from gullible punters!

The excise duty is the major cost of cigarettes and this is levied per unit, not by weight. The extra attracts no additional duty and is therefor a cheap marketing extra.

The filters are a little bit longer aswell. When i've had supers, I've always cut the filters down. It's like sucking on a pencil otherwise!
They put the sweepings off the floor in them, thats why they are cheaper.

The cigarettes are longer, because they have a longer filter, but the cigarette is actually thinner than the `normal` ones.

it's probably the government loses out - as the reason cigarettes are soooooo expensive it is the tax on them cigarettes are actually very cheap it's the tax and profit margin from shops isn't

Psychological! They're selling less than an extra 4 grams. But they want you to buy more as you think it is good value it isn't!
