The word is "trousseau" from French. Throughout history, single young women all over the world have prepared for their change in marital status by accumulating a trousseau. A traditional trousseau -- stored in a hope chest -- included bridal accessories, jewelry, lingerie, toiletries and makeup, plus bed linens and bath towels for her new home.
I hope this helps.

There are a couple of collections the bride would sew or gather in anticipation her marriage. The trousseau is a collection of personal items (Lingerie, gowns, best clothes, and the wedding costume.) Things gathered for the home - linens, quilts, blankets, lace tablecloths and embrodered things and nicey's were generally placed in a "Hope Chest". This is(was) made of cedar or was lined in cedar wood to protect from moths or moisture.

Teh dowry is all the things the father of the bride woudl supply to the husband it usually included furniture and money. I am not sure the things in the hope chest would be considered part of that though

Hope chest - the linens, etc. a woman collected for her
marriage ... her household things, towels ...
Trousseau - her honeymoon wardrobe ... in other words,
after the wedding, she would change from her wedding dress into clothes from her trousseau (all new, as I recall)
and then she and her husbnd would leave on their honeymoon...
