All saint's day where mexicans recognize all of the people who have passed. This culture doesn't fear and ignore death like most western cultures they recognize it as natural and as the final act of living and take this opportunity to remember and to honour the dead. It is not at all like western culture that uses halloween as a pseudo scare tactic. Not all people are fearful of death and the great beyond like some are.

I´m Northern Mexican, here the traditions of the "dead´s day" aren´t very popular, but is still considered an important holiday.
Dead´s day(dia de muertos) is a tradition of Indian origin before the Spanish Conquest. Is more popular in Southern Mexico where the Native American Indian population is high.

The popularity of skeletons came from ancient times. Just look at some of the Aztec deities--the god of death often appears as a skeleton. It's more popular in rural communities in states like Oaxaca.
