Like it says in the Bible, man cannot serve two masters. I didn't read the other answers, and I'm sure this has been stated before, but it is so true. Ask anyone who has had to work 2 jobs. One of them takes priority over the other. Or look at a person who has 2 lovers. One person is neglected while the other is the priority. Whether we want to admit it or not, two similar situations causes our feeble human brains to choose which is more important. It is human nature.

Think of the colonial times - before the thirteen colonies were officially united to the United States - to unite these colonies was a great example of multi-national patriotism - some groups must have been a patriot to them all. Quite a diverse set of colonies at the time.

You can be a patriot to an idea. Like freedom. You can love multiple countries and still be a patriot to both. Your allegiance can only be too. I support the USA and Israel because both countries are fighting for freedom. My allegiance lies with which ever one stays the course. No matter what.

Not only is it possible, but it's been done many times. Here's an example: We have Jewish people living in our country. They serve in our military as well. Some are patriots in other ways. Yet, if their "home" country of Israel goes to war, many will go back to fight. Since the U.S. and Israel are allies, no problem.
