Hi, I'm a nanny for a 3month old baby girl, in the state of MA. I don't have lots of experience with newborns, but am handling the job perfectly. The beggining was hard, but the baby and I are getting along pretty well. Here's the thing, I work about 10 and half hours every day, M-F, and I have to do housekeeping too, (big house). I'm making around 450 a week, does that seem fair?

That does sound a little low, but if you came in with zero experience then it might have been a fair wage to begin with but might be low given your new experience.

If you alternative was to work at McDonalds then this might not be a bad wage. Alternatively, if you have more skills you might be able to work in an office for $15.00...if so your current wage sounds like a bad deal for you.

Now that a couple of months have passed and they have begun to depend on you, you might want to ask for a raise. Tell them that since your experience level has increased you deserve to be paid more.

Do some reasearch on the internet to see what nannies make in your area. Call some day care centers and ask how much they charge. Present the parents with cold hard numbers and explain to them that your current wages are lower than normal.

It works out to $8.57 an hour, which depending on your age and experience, could go either way really as far as being good or bad. My concern is the number of hours that you work. At most jobs that would be considered overtime, so you would be getting paid extra for any # of hours over 40. For that reason, you may be right in asking for a raise.

I think that you are grossly underpaid. that's only about $8.57 an hour. My niece is a nanny and makes $14 an hour, under the table.

I would suggest checking into the want ads to see what others are offering. Since you are not very well experienced, perhaps after 6 months of being there, you could approach them for at least $10 per hour.

You are around the lower to middle income for ur field. It could be better but at least you have a job. also consider any benefits though, like if you snack at the house when you are babysitting
