I installed an old hp 120 gb hard drive in an external enclosure. My computer recognizes only the 5 gb recovery partition of the drive rather than the main part of the drive. Any one have any ideas?

Just wanted to add that I'm running Win XP. I don't want to reformat because there is data on the drive I need.

If you're using an older OS like Win98, it can't see ntfs partitions. It sounds like the 120GB drive is formatted in ntfs and the recovery partition is formatted in FAT32 (which all Windows OS recognizes).

I suggest reformatting the drive in FAT32 or upgrade to WinXP.

I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems.
Some RAM/hard drive problems can be easily fixed yourself by using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful. Try this site, if you can get what is required.

Hi!

An idea would be to merge all partitions into a single partition.

Good luck!
