It's the same reason why it's bad to go in a hot tub. Your unborn baby can't regulate it's temperature yet and when you are in hot water, the baby gets hot too. This is the one thing I'm absolutely horrible about. I'm almost 19 weeks along and I'm guilt of taking hot baths. I love my baths scorching hot, they warm me up in this cold weather. I've tried to make my baths cooler than I usually do, but it's still hard. My doctor said a hot shower is better than a hot bath because it doesn't emmerse the baby in the water as much.

You can take hot showers when pregnant, just be careful not to raise you body temperature over 100.

If you are really worried take a thermometer in with you.

I never heard that showers could hurt. It's soaking in a hot bath that can raise your body temp. And it's OK you just don't want to be in the heat for longer than 10 to 15 mins. I had asked my midwife about hottubs and that's what she said. And it's your body temp not your babies. Same has you having a high fever for an extended period of time can affect the baby.

It depends on how far along you are. In the first trimester, it is important to maintain normal body temperature. Fevers or elevated body temps have been linked to neural tube defects, like spina bifida.

In the second trimester, the neural tube is developed so it isn't as important to keep your body temperature normal.
