We're thinking about getting my mom one of there because her old vacuum cleaner is just about dead. I was wondering if anyone has one of these (or any dyson) and what you think of it?

Got one and it worked great, it had lots of neat features she should love it, but.... a Kirby person came by and knowing that my friend and my dad had a Kirby... we tried it and it worked NOTICIBLY well! I returned the Dyson and bought the Kirby. The ONLY two bad points about the Kirby is the cost (about $1500) and the fact that it weights about 20 lbs.
The Dyson is what I think about when I have to lug the Kirby up or down the stairs. I really think it is 2nd best! And according to Consumer report (that I read before the Dyson came out) make Kirby the BEST but cost restrictive and heavy. But I would not be surprised if Kirby is now still the best and that the Dyson is made offically the second best. Get Mom the Dyson.. she won't be sorry. All the attachments are stored on the unit and it can change it's use at a moments notice and can be learned quickly enough and cleaned out very quickly. Best wishes.

I have had my Dyson Animal vacuum for 5 years now (so it probably doesn't compare to the ones you're looking at, mine was well before the ball) and it's amazing. I had a herding dog that shed all the time and his fur wasn't really visible on the carpet but it certainly did pick up a lot. Now I have 2 medium/long haired cats and it's works well for their fur. I probably need to clean the brushes really good or the carpet in the place that I rent is really bad (or both) but I've had to vacuum really slowly since we moved kind of letting the vacuum drag itself along. Have used other vacuums and my mom actually has a Rainbow and I can't stand emptying out hairy dirty water, definitely prefer dumping out a dry container and washing it out occasionally.

www.epinions.com is a great place to find reviews. I found it a few days ago and it's very informative! I haven't any experience with a Dyson but I definitely want one!

I had a Kirby- love my new Dyson!!! The wand in the handle means no more kneeling to attach the hose to do corners drapes etc. No more bags and ,if it clogs, easy to clear. I love it- and she will too, it'll make house keeping a breeze- great choice!!

I was in the same boat as you, and a few months ago I took the plunge and bought the Dyson... check Amazon.com for the best prices, and consider a remanufactured one...

I love my Dyson!
