The Democrats don't take control of congress until Jan. '07. I would think that you would have to give responsibility for the economy to the Republicans for at least six months after that.

The DOW is not really an indicator of how the economy is doing. The DOW is an indicator in the confidence investors have in the economy. If the DOW shot up right after the election somebody has confidence.

Considering that the main reason it keeps going up is that Wall Street is cheering the breaking of the status quo and the hope of a true deficit reduction? Yes, they probably should get some credit for keeping the confidence high that saner government is afoot.

The market looks at least 6 months ahead, typically.

What do you care who gets credit or not. Every analyst will have their own partisan view. How to tell which is really correct except from the lens of history 20, or 30 years from now.

The important thing is its that the economy is doing good,
irrespective of who we think should get credit for it, right?

No, it was breaking its record way before they were in power, a product of the Bush tax cuts spurring investments and powering the economy.

Now that they're in power? Um, not yet. January. And anyway, they don't have the executive branch. Now that Bush has been in power for 6 years, does he get to blame the Clinton administration?

Maybe a little. More people are happy that there has been a change in the government's leadership, and hense they are buying more overall.

They are not in power yet. They will when they are.Just like Republicans though, it won't be their fault when it goes down.
