One day the brakes on my Jimmy went soft and sank to the floor and then completely gave out. There are no brakes, they are just laying flat on the floor. A New master cylinder was put in three weeks before this happened and no brake line leaks, got the truck bled really well, Still no brakes. What I cant figure out is that I can brake when in reverse but not when the car is in drive. What could be the problem. When I did have the brakes bled i was told that the car would stop in drive but only for a second then out again back and forth like that. Could anyone help??
And why would they stop only in reverse?

Your mastercylinder is bleeding around inside it`s self. They have a shuttle valve inside. This valve is souposed to balance the forward and reward travel of the fluid inside allowing build up of the pressure you need to stop.

Check the fluid level if fluid low you must find the leak could be lines, master, callipers, wheel cyl. If fluid is up most likely problem is the master cyl could be a bad master cyl

Check that the rear brake shoes are adjusted right and mounted correctly. There is a pri. and secondary lining . Some chevy had a problem with rear wheel cyl that would rotate in their mounts
