could women who have had the procedure--or know someone who has--tell me things like the recovery time, etc?

I had it done 6 years ago, and have no regrets.
It is a fairly long surgery (3-5 hours, depending on the surgeon, his/her technique, and the size of the patient)
You will probably have pretty long incisions. Those sting for about a week, but pain medication makes it ok. There is an achey pain deeper in, which I didn't think was too horrible.
Give yourself a week to do nothing. Once you are off narcotics, you can drive and pretty much get back to normal. You might need 2 weeks off work, if you are of the employed persuasion.
Here's a helpful hint: pantyliners make great pads to soak up the little bit of blood that accumulates on your incisions.
Other than that, do everything your surgeon tells you to do, and things will go well.

Well, I've had two of those, about 20 yrs apart. I'd plan on a good week of very limited (as in stay at home & reclining) activity. Then several more wks of limited lifting--even so much as the average woman's purse. the doc can give you firmer extimates depending on age, health , etc. I'm glad I did mine. Get the doc to agree to a free/reduced cost scar re-do in case you scar baddly--also worth it.

You need at least a month or two for recovery. Don't do heavy weight things. That will really cause pain. Consult your physician for more answers because everyone is different.
