You're question is interesting...

How does one know he has finished a book? I noticed that (at least) one person gave you the obvious solution to this riddle: traditionally, the very last word of a novel, on the very last page--counting (or not) the epilogue--should naturally cue its finish. Perhaps you already understand this, and if so, perhaps you ask a different sort of question, one that I regretfully cannot infer. But my instincts tell me there is a typo in the post, meant to say, "How do you know (when you finish a book) whose opinion counts on how good it is?" If I've guessed correctly, you'd like to know where to access critical interpretations of literature. If I'm mistaken about your query, feel free to ignore the following information.

Academic resources are available in a number of places, from a variety of publications. The most convenient place to start is the Internet; I highly recommend the Internet Public Library (www.ipl.org/div/litcrit ). The entire website is very user friendly and has an impressive, digital archive that rivals a real library. Of course, you can always go to the real library...ask a real librarian where to find literary criticism...that's the old fashioned way, but believe me, it's tried and true.

Ask your teacher. That is what he or she is there for!

I hope I have adequately answered your question--or what I thought your question might be--and wish you luck on studying literature. It's a worthwhile part of your education.

If you are serious about publishing a book you will need to join/create a writer's group. Peer review is the first step. Educated, well-read people are essential if you want useful advice. Great writers have editors, academic peers, agents.. years of experience. Don't expect to pop out of isolation and get immediately published.

A book is finished when you reach the last page - & as you are the one who's read the book, you are now entitled to offer an opinion on it.

*If this isn't what you meant, you'd better keep refining your question asking technique.

i guess you're talking about your own book. they say you can never re-write too much, but obviously you have to stop at some point, make sure the grammar, the spelling, and the format is ok, and send it in. whose opinion counts? whoever agrees to publish it. and yours.

Sorry to put it like this, but when you eat food or drink good wine: how can you tell whether it is good or not? Do you really need someone to tell you that something is good in order to be able to appreciate it?

You can't really tell accurately which book is the best and whether the book is good as everybody has their own different opinions and preferences. But one way to find out is that whether it is popular.
