It's as simple as just telling her that she will soon be a big sister, herself. A five year old may be curious and want to know all kinds of details, but you can certainly tell her that there are somethings for an adult to know and a child will just have to wait.
In the meantime, It should be enough to tell her that the teeny, tiny baby is growing in mommy's tummy, and will come out when it's good and ready. Be sure to let both kids on the milestones, especially the baby's kicks, ultrasound pictures and, if possible, listening to the baby's heartbeats.
As far is the "when will the baby get here?" question. How about setting up a special calandar that the little one can take charge of crossing off the remaining weeks and days?

You need to tell her. I told my two year old as soon as I knew. She is still a little not sure but we are trying to involve her as a big sister. She gets to help mommy pick out clothes and she loves it. You five year old will do good. If the questions get annoying then just keep telling her that the baby has to finish growing inside of you. The baby is not big enough yet when she is big enough then you and daddy will go get the baby out of your belly. This is what I keep telling my three year old nephew. He keep asking how big is the baby and when will I go to the hospital and take the baby out. He is just a little excited. I love it though I know that he will be good to his new baby nephew. It's the little memories that will last and you wil remember forever. Good Luck.

My son was so happy when I told him (same age) They make these great books- "I'm going to be a big brother/big sister" "baby on the way" etc. There is a section in just about every bookstore with all kinds of choices. I just told him straight out that there was a baby in my belly. As far as "when is the baby coming" you would want to tell her general terms.. tell her the month and explain that it is spring time, after christmas- around Easter. That way she's not asking every day.
Also-- getting an "I'm a big sister" t-shirt will make her SO proud!
It will go well.. I promise!

I have an 8 and a 5 year old as well and trying to get pregnant. We asked my 5 year old how he would feel to be a big brother he said good but he kinda resorts to baby like attitudes every once in a while. I am not even pregnant yet. Bring up all the things she can teach the baby!

At 5, most little girls are delighted that they will have a baby sister. At this age many of them are playing with dolls and all ready have the nurturing felling.
If you are from an intelligent modern family, this is not too young of an age to explain some of the elementary facts of life when they ask either.

That's no problem, how did you tell your eight year old that she was going to have a sister? If it worked then, the same rule of thumb applies. Or you could try the baby channel on tv.

I suggest you showing her a picture of the sonogram. and ask her if she can point out the nose and fingers etc After that make a craft. You know when the baby is due. Get a big poster board and draw calendars. (regular calendar wouldnt be as visual for her I dont think). And then every day she can mark off one more day. This give her something to look forward to and then also she can see herself.
This also can become an intense counting exercise for her.
congrats!!!!!

my daughter was 4 when she found out. I was worried at first too but she loves her brother and is very protective . I started by I asked her to help pick stuff out for the baby! I asked her to Help decorate the room and made it fun. I talked about the baby every day to her. She got used to the idea of a baby! She wanted to be the big helper

that's in actuality a creepy question, yet no, a three year previous boy can no longer get a woman pregnant, with the aid of fact the sperm he produces does not pass away the physique, till he's sufficiently previous to journey a 'moist dream'. This oftentimes occurs in puberty. i'm no longer intentionally attempting to be rude, yet thinking approximately such extraordinary questions is probably something you will possibly desire to shop to your self, exceedingly in the event that they contain some sort of paedophilia.
