There's a giant spill of filtered diatomaceous earth on my lawn! It was intended for my pool, but someone foolishlessly left it on the lawn and it spilled. I dont want it to kill my lawn and I'm worried for my dog's safety because it's hazardous. Is there anything to neutralize its effects? What should I do?

The only danger that I know of with diatomaceous material is if it gets airborn and you breathe in large quantities. But, since it takes quite a wind to stir it up, that's not likely. I wouldn't let my dog snorfle it up.

It's harmless. Like the others said, spread it around and water it into the lawn.

It is a non-toxic, safe substance made up from crushed fossils of freshwater organisms and marine life. Crushed to a fine powder and observed through a microscope, the particles resemble bits of broken glass. Deadly to any insect and completely harmless to animals, fish, fowl or food. Most insects have a waxy outer shell covering their bodies, INSECT STOP scratches through this shell causing the insect to dehydrate leading to eventual death.

So basically, unless you or your dog have an exoskeleton there is nothing to worry about.
Just rake it through the lawn and give it a hose to wash it in, it is also a very good wetting agent for the soil as it absorbs moisture well.

DE is a bunch of dead microscopic creatures that lived a long time ago. It kills insects by scaring their cuticle and letting their fluids ooze out. Unless you or your dog are insects, you have nothing to worry about. Just scoop up what you can and rake the area to spread it into the soil. You're welcome.
