There are several kinds of classes, each with different levels of time commitment. The Bradley method is intended for people who want to skip pain medication - the classes I found were 13 weeks long, once a week. Lamaze is a shorter class - one I found was 4 weeks long. Most hospitals also have a "crash course" that is just one or two Saturdays. I think you need a partner for Bradley and Lamaze.
At the very least, take the hospital tour. You (and hopefully your baby's father can come once) visit the hospital, find out where to park, you can preregister and see exactly what happens where. It's nice to walk into familiar surroundings when you are in labor.

My doc told me that if there were any childbirth classes that I was thinking about, then I should let their recepitionist know becasue they could help me pick the right ones and the best time to attend. As far as your partner not being able to attend it should be fine unless it is lamaze or something like that. I have the same problem. My hubby workes a swing shift and all the lamaze classes are on tuesdays so he could attend some with me but not all. Good Luck and ask at your next appionment, or call the hospital because they can tell you when, where, and what classe that they offer. Good Luck!!

They are great, Iloved mine..it will help you w/ some things & ease you mind w/ others. Call the hospital where you will be giving birth, they will surely have a class. Ask them about your partner not being able to attend, my class had many moms that the husbands/boyfriends did not attend, some had a friend or family member come along while other came alone. Most classes ask you to register at about 6 months, so if baby comes early you will have finished your class, good luck

I took Bradley Method classes, which are father based coaching. But, you could also bring a close friend or your Mom, anyone who will be at the birth. I did that with my friend, whose husband works wacky hours.
