If you mean Merlin, as in Merlin the Magician in King arthur stories, it was originally Myrddin.
This may have arisen from a place-name in Wales meaning "sea fort".
My name, Diane, means "divine".

If you Break the word down Mer means sea As in Mer-maid Sea maid. Lin is a very old word for Wall. Since a wall is also a protective barrier it could also mean a fort. So Sea castle would be more apropriate.

Maybe "merlon"?

Merlons are the slots on top of a castle wall - the ones the archers shoot arrows thru.
