Personally I think British accents sound intellectual. Maybe because it is so soft and light sounding, whereas something like a Brooklyn accent or Long Island accent, or deep southern accent is so harsh. But accents should not at all affect how you think of a person from Britain or Brooklyn or Long Island or the south and so on and so on.

As a licensed voice-actor, the most intelligent sounding accent is: none. Regional dialect can sometimes be confusing, so in order to get the message across loud and clear, make sure you research "American Broadcast English". A friend from California may be able to help you.

I think the American accents sound the most intelligent. British (or English, if you will) sounds more proper. Now if you want to break down the American Accents: Southern and Northeastern...no. Any American accent that has no real accent, I believe, sounds best.

I have a friend who is Chinese, born in Hong Kong, migrated to Australia as a child, but was educated in the United States and England. When she speaks, it is a fascinating combination of accents. She sounds--and is--very intelligent. But, I'd say, the British accent predominates in her speech.

I think most people perceive the British accent to sound the most intelligent. But if you are educated, and enunciate your words properly, using them in the proper context, your accent will do just fine, I am sure!

The "no" accent which is traditional for newscasters, it is the pattern of speech used mostly in the mid-west. I have limited my answer to english speaking Americans. I am not familiar enough with other accents to judge them.

Most Americans are convinced it's the English accent that sounds the smartest. (British, not Cockney).
