I'd go with the gto. It's got a huge engine for the size and weight car it is. They're tearing up the Drifting circuit too!

If you're looking at one of the latest Firebirds (2000-2002) with the LS1 engine and comparing that to the '06 GTO with the LS2 engine, stock for stock the GTO should be faster as the LS1 was about 320bhp vs the LS2's 400bhp. Both of them have gobs of power and "minor" modifications to either can tip the scales toward either one for a drag race. The GTO would handle braking and cornering better if you're asking about a road-race or track day scenario.

Pontiac has not made Firebirds for a few years now.

Hate to disapoint you but Firebird /Trans Am was discontinued in 2002

gto six speed don't think you will find a firebird they don't make them any more.
