Why do some people think it's cool to type like morons?

I mean, really, it's not that much harder to spell correctly. There's even a spell checker, so the computer can fix the mistakes for you! Regrettably, it seems that typing in this moronic shorthand code is growing in popularity. When I read things like " wut do u ppl think i shud do 4 my bff?" it drives me insane!

You know...... shorthand existed long before computers.

Its been generally accepted by our socioty for sometime that informal communitcations do not need to be fit to turn into yoyur engliush teacher.

I dont use shorthand all the time (im not here) -- but I do plenty. And when I do it's mainly because I cant type as fast as I can think -- so I am trying to keep up with me thoughts.

Not everyone can type 60 words a minute.

I dont think that they think it is "COOL" -- I thin kit is because in this day and age, a WHOLE lot more communication gets typed into a computer instead of just said outloud, to someone who is there. And a whole lot more people are doing it. And a lot of people cant type very fast, because not everyone grows up with a computer, or access to one.

If your writing a paper for school, or something for work -- yes -- I think u should use proper english.

However I feel that using shorthand, for quick little communications over the web is a perfectly reasonable thing to do. I dont want to waste a bunch of time spell checking, and proofreading everything I type. (and yahoo's spell checker sucks -- if it where more like a normal spell checker that just underlines words, I would use it)

In your own example, that sentance is completly understandable. I think everyone knows what its supposed to say. So whats the big deal?? Why does it drive u so inseane? Why dont you just stop thinking about it so much. I say: If it conveys the intended message -- who cares about spelling. Its not like shorthand didnt exist before the net.

What annoys me a whole lot more, is people who dont use any puncuation. (perticularly periods) And so they type a whole paragraph, and it's literally just a paragraph of all lowercase words, one space between each, and no periods, so you cant even tell where sentaces start etc.

But if people want to shorthand the hell out of everything -- why should it piss u off, if u can still understand the message?

I agree with you 100%. I guess people go to all those years of school and all those English classes so that they can forget everything they learned about spelling and grammar. I can't even read it half the time. It really doesn't take that much longer just to type the real words.

LOL I hate when people type in that shorthand crap. When I try and read it outloud I sound like I don't even know how to read. Type like a somewhat educated person everyone, it's not that hard!

I think that a lot of it is generational because most of the time the people typing like that are younger and it's like 'internet slang'

sadly you're right though, it looks ridiculous and some adults type like that too.
