Sure, it happens often. Most people just don't accept others completely right away. Some others are trying to hide something from me, for whatever reason. I have enough real friends to avoid others that might diminish me. Boundaries can be healthy.
Hate whatever you want, but hate is a waste of energy.
Friendly is one thing, friendship exists on many different levels, and some people have their own methods of allowing friends in, and others have borders in place for self-protection. True friendship can only be proven over time, and through shared experiences or tribulations.
I have no answer for that.
Some people want pets, but I would recommend something other than a peeve, you have to feed peeves emotions.

I hate to admit this, but I'm one of those people. I will be gung-ho about meeting someone new, and then they get on my nerves, and I shut them out. It's a bad thing, I agree, but I am obsessed with my personal space! So, from one of the culprits, I say I'm sorry for being a peeve!

It isn't. It's par for the course in the world right now. Not just around you. It's also a phenomenon but to be expected under the circumstances given human nature. If 007 has to be cagey, you have to be even more so! Only problem, in cases where it's deserved richly? You can't shoot anybody.

Ya, That really sucks!!
But we mustn't be too hasty because one never knows the struggles another may be enduring. Maybe they don't want to catch you up in them? Sometimes things don't come off the way we'd like!!
I'd like to be your friend. But maybe I'm scared I will disappoint you!

it is frustrating. but sometimes there is a reason and one just has to keep trying and it can turn out to be a good friendship. other times, it is time to back away and let it go. maybe depends how much you want to be friends and if willing to dig deep to find out why.

Sure have, several times. Either that or everything has to be about them. They aren't interested in hearing about you just what they want or need. I that that too.

No, I am very forthcoming, and people find me to be receptive and non-judgmental, so they do open up to me.
The rest of that is your choice, which you are entitled to.
