If you're planning on having more children after this one then getting an expensive one would be well worth it. Also, when you're done using it you could sell it on ebay and get part if not all your money back.

In the end, it's your call, but what I did was rent a hospital grade pump. It worked wonderfully, and in the end was just as expensive as a new one (and I didn't have to figure out what to do with a used breast pump). Personally, I'd never reuse someone else's lingerie, so why would I want to use their breast pump? Sure, both can be sterilized, but still, yuck! I only breastfed my oldest for a few months, as it became too hard to pump at work without a private place to do it. Also, most pumps only come with a one year warranty, so if you are only planning on using it for this child, it may be ok, but may not last through two kids (just a thought).

I hadn't planned on utilizing my breast pump both the first time round... yet I did discover it fairly helped engorgement. I only pumped even as engorged and iced up that breast milk. It got here in reachable even as for 2 days I had to be positioned on meds that i could not breastfeed with. I had adequate kept up for my 5 month previous twins on the time so i didn't want to motel to formula supplementation. i'd only purchase an inexpensive guide or electric powered pump and some bottles, only in case.

I would invest in medela pump in style, It is 319 at retail stores but 279 on the Internet. It is the best if you plan on working full time. I bought the avent isis duo pump myself, it is okay than i went and got the medela which works better. I know they are alot of money but you need a good one if you plan to go back to work. Please do not buy a used medela it is not recommended by the FDA.

You'll get the most milk out of an electric double pump (and you only use about 10 minutes to do both sides so not much of your day is wasted).
I had (and loved) the Avent double. It was about $300. I think everyone loves their electric ones so you'll hear alot of brands mentioned.
Manual or hand pumping takes too much time, is hard, hurts, and doesn't get nearly as much milk.

The easiest ones to use are the electric pumps.

But if you are worried about cost, try the Isis/Avent system. They work well - though it does take time. You will need about 20 minutes per breast.

Other than that, go manual! Sometimes I did it just to relieve the soreness between pumpings - it really does work.

Good luck!

Personally, I wouldn't waste my time with a cheaper one OR a manual one. Invest in a Medela Pump In Style. They will cost you a couple of hundred new or less for a used one on Ebay or craigslist.com. Many people seem to like the manual Advent Isis manual one. I bought one, then bought another thinking something was wrong with the first. I couldn't get the darn thing to keep a suction so I sold one and gave one away. Total waste of time.

But in my opinion it's best to go with a more expensive electric one.

Avent pumps are great! I used the manual one for over a year 3 times a day at work. It didn't hurt me, it got good and fast results, and it wasn't very expensive. I think I am going to upgrade to one of their new electronic ones, that can still be used manually, when I go back to work next month.

If you plan on working and breastfeeding, seriously invest in the medela pump in style, I used it with my first baby and I was able to pump sucessfully for 8 months and it really kept my milk supply going! I saved up to buy it, and believe I am poor, but I was really happy I bought one.

I am currently breastfeeding my daughter ( 2months), I got a single electeric, by the first years. I like it and it was only $100. You can also rent one from the hospital, and they should give you a manual one by Medlena (I might of spelt that wrong). The Hospital reccomends that brand. Go for what you can afford, as long as it does the job it's fine.

I bought one with my first... do NOT get a manual one. They take forever and I thing I've tried them all. With this one I'm renting one from the hospital! It's better quality and not that expensive I hear (my SIL is a OB nurse and said they are cheap, but I forgot to ask about what they run). Although I'm not sure what the actual cost is and would be interested in finding out what they run.
