A club of Villa's stature and pedigree should always be challenging for honours. This is not a right it must be earned and in Martin O Neal they have a manager who can achieve this. If Mr Lerner continues to show his commitment to the club as he has up to now all things are possible.

At a recent sports forum Martin O Neal said his ambition would be to strive to achieve Villa's past glories, league and European success although at the moment we are a million miles from this why not set your sights high. This achievement is nothing that had not been done in the past for Villa.

He also pointed out that he himself is a double European Cup Winner, won with a little known football team called Nottingham Forrest but managed by the great Brian Clough.

All things are possible.

Come on Villa.

I would hope that they would be challenging for a place in Europe every season and in particular aiming for the top 4. It will depend on how much money is available (it will not be like Chelsea). O'Neill will use the money wisely I am sure. I do not think he will go for "top" players. He will choose players who will fit into a team ethic. He learnt so much from Clough and Villa will benefit from this.

Randy Lerner has utilised the James Milner 'providence' with the intention to 'shore up' a number of MBNA's 'poisonous' mess. The Villa Chairman's (to boot as his countrymen's at guy U and Liverpool) understanding and know-how of football ("football") stands commensurate with....... Alec Ferguson being waiting to ('assisted' by youthful Wayne on his nighttime off) keep on with atomic fission to submarine propulsion contraptions!

i hate to burst your bubble but randy learner is not, never has been and never will be the biggest spender in the world. he'll invest at the start but he'll eventually start to run villa as a sports busisness. they will have to generate their own funds to buy players with and unfortunatay aston villa will never be a man utd or liverpool in branding stakes.
