I born in Penang and i studied in Serdang and worked in Kuala Lumpur.

Since this is travel session, i will have to recommend Penang for travelers even though i like both cities. Penang is no doubt can offer more choice to travelers either from developed countries or developing countries.

Travelers can go to relax in beaches in Penang. beside that, Penang has many hills and jungles for trekking activities. another unique thing about Penang is the ferry service. by using ferry, travelers can have wonderful sea-view including view of one of longest bridge in the world. at the same time, Penang is also famous of the delicious of variety food. trishaw is another attraction you can not find in Kuala Lumpur. last and not least, Penang is a place you can find time out of hectic life in big city.

on the other hand, Kuala Lumpur is a metropolitan city. Kuala Lumpur is full of traffic jam although you can find many shopping complex around. the only major attraction for many traveler to the city is Petronas Twin Tower.

i will not recommend my friends to Kuala Lumpur only if they have more than 3 days in Malaysia. i will take them to Penang.

I love Kuala Lumpur!! Been living here right in this marvellous city! You can just get anything you want..anywhere you want or even a snap of your finger! if you were so lazy..there's always 24 hours delivery of Mcdonalds or 'Room Service'..where as you cant get that in Penang.! penang cant never beat Kuala Lumpur except for the beaches..

Penang. Why? You can't ride on a 'lanca' (traditional trishaw), eat the best 'teochew cendol', 'nasi kandar' anywhere else in Malaysia. Of course you will also missed the chance to visit the one and only famous 'Penang Bridge', 'Kek Lok Si Pagoda' and 'Snake temple' in Penang if you visit KL. Penang is also famous for 'Batu Feringgi Beach' and you can easily take the ferry to 'Langkawi Island' from the jetty. Don't forget to snap a photo or two with Francis Light (claimed to be the founder of Penang) statue and historical British sites too.

Penang! why penang?! because of the people, the multiraces food, the traffic flow [once you get the 'green' light, all the way the traffic light will always green for you.you dont believe me? have a ride in penang.experience it], the beaches, the old buildings [they do preserve it rather than demolished and build a new one], the nasi kandar is every where.. =) above all, once you step in penang, you can feel the the breeze welcoming you together with the warm-hearted people. i love penang.
why not KL? urm..kl; traffic jam is everywhere.flood.CO2 [not to say penang is NIL, but the index is slightly higher than penang lor..].people there are always, always n always bz.cost of living higher than penang.no beaches and so on.
i dunno what rubbish i'm talking about. =) but this is just my 2 cents.my sincere point of view.

I really enjoyed Penang. The place that I stayed was a beach hotel and then from there I would take a Taxi into town to do shopping and try good food. I think it is a good place to go if it is your first time in Malaysia.

For me too it would be KL. There are a lot of places to see, to go shopping. It is a modern city, I think a lot more than Penang.

Penang. It's got the right amount of what you need from a city (shopping + entertainment) and a lot of what you can't get from a city (beach etc). It's a great balance. People could be friendlier though.

hard question. penang is my kampung, KLis my home. depends on the way you look at it...i love KL for its culture scene...cuisine, shopping, entertainment, education...it has almost everything for anyone. Penang is a more selective choice - quiet but bustling, it is small, but perfect for the person who prefers small town communities.

Malaysia rocks.
