i have a chevy astro van that is starting to act up. when i drive down the street it will start to loose power(spit and sputter) and then die or try to die. Does anyone out there have any idea what it may be. it is a 1989 model..could it be the fuel injector, fuel pump,or fuel filter? I just got it home from dying on me and my husband sprayed carb cleaner into the carbutiator and it finally started but tried to die while he drove it home.... thank you for any help you can give me....

Try replacing the valves on the fuel line, also use Restore from www.restoreusa.com and/or ZMax. They restore compression which gives you better horsepower which keeps it from dying

Could be a fuel problem. It could also be an ignition problem. I believe some Chevy's had problems with the control module which would send a very weak spark to the sparkplugs. Three things make a car run. Timing, fuel, Spark. Check all three.

Agree with it being a fuel problem. Start with the fuel filter, check the fuel press if you have access to a press gauge. 11-13psi

Check the battery connections. Spark plug wires will cause hesitation under load (stoppy jerky motion). The electronic distributor could be burned out.
The other things you mentioned can be part of it too. Start with the inexpensive things first.
