The first thing that comes to mind is the manufacturing of corn for use of E85 ethanol for energy in cars. This is huge because it would mean a major shift in production, mostly by expansion of crops. This could also cause a rise in foods that require corn, such as corn starch (sugars) and other things corn is in.

Current issues in agriculture:
~ erosion and soil degradation and salination.
~ The commoditization of agri products making the prices so low, the government HAS to subsidize farming, because it is NOT a lucrative business
~ the use of petroleum-based pesticides and fertilizers - the growing cost of using these products as well as the growing concern for environmental and health damages by using chemicals to produce natural food.
~ the drive towards a return to organic farming
~ irrigation methods (or lack there of) and the move towards no-till farming to reduce water vaporization and erosion
~ this mis-belief in society that E85 ethanol fuel will reduce our demand for foreign oil - if you took 100% of the US crop land and moved it to producing corn for E85, it would still only supply 10% of the US fuel consumption for automobiles - but it would wipe OUT FOOD PRODUCTION for the US and all the countries we export to (the short end of the story here... E85 is NOT the answer!)

I won't post a mailing address on a public forum, but I believe you on the thank you note!

1. Frankenfoods. People don't want to eat "transgenic" genetically engineered plants. There was a big flap a year or so ago about genetically engineered corn getting into taco shells, when that particular strain of corn had not been approved for human consumption.

2. Patenting of seeds. A farmer saved some of his crop to plant the next year. Monsanto said he couldn't do that without paying the licensing fee for their particular strain, and filed a lawsuit.
