It really depends on the type of connection that you have on your computer and the size of your downloads. The larger the downloads, the longer the time. dial-up modems take the longest amount of time and cable broadband takes the shortest amount of time.

It would have helped to know what kind of isp you are using. If you are using dial up then yes it can take 9 hours or longer to d/l if you upgrading to sp2. However you can shut down your computer anytime as the windows update will pick up where it left off when you sign in again. You can still use your computer but the computer will operates slower including the download. Therefore making d/l take longer. When i had dial up I used to set up for my window updates at night go to bed and the next morning it would usually be done. That is if I didnt get disconnected.

microsoft have had continuing problems with their up-dates.
sometimes they have 2 re-install them after so many failed attempts.
i 2 have left my computer on all night, waiting 4 it 2 update and shut down successfully.
i find it irritating but if the up-date is unsuccessful 1 day it will try 2 re-install on another day, without any problems.
9 hours sounds about the limit. not every1 wants 2 leave their computer chuntering away all night, running up the electric bill.
do a forced shut-down and let the web-site try again another day, well that's what i do if it bothers me. as long as ur system has other virus/firewall programmes, it'll b fine.
and this is only a suggestion.
c what some other folks say.

Are you a dial-up connection to the internet? What Windows version are you using? What virus protection program? These and other things can cause problems with the automatic updates. Since we can't really have a dialog on this venue, I'd say shut it down manually.

There is no answer to this question. I may answer: too long, if you ask me.
Explanation: depending on your OS version and installed updates, MS Windows downloads a bunch of updates so...
Generally, the fist update takes the most, wile regular take less...
Good luck!

Depends on the speed of your internet connection. With a T1 connection, the update takes a few seconds, with a DSL connection, a little longer, with a dial up connection, maybe days.

It takes a short time like 5 to 10 minutes so there must be something wrong unless this is the first one you ever down loaded and it has loads to catch up on but it seems to me if theres a problem

Not that long, how long has it been since you did the updates? I would turn it off restart and go to the website and see what it says. good luck and God bless********************************
