Is it because of their Viking blood?

I doubt that Scots have a whole lot of Viking blood. Most Scots are actually of Irish descent. There was a mass exodus from Ireland, a whole people carrying their livestock, and the rest of their lives with them to settle in Scotland.

The reality is that Scotland was always subject to the British crown. With the rebellion, made famous by the movie, Robert the Bruce became the first independent king of Scotland in a long time. Scots fought for Wallace and the Bruce because they were fighting for their homeland, for their very survival. If they lost to the English, they would most likely be put to death, their wives abused, children killed, property destroyed/plundered/confiscated.

When an animal fights with its back against the wall, with nowhere else to go, it will fight harder than at any other time. Same with the Scots. Same with the Israeli army in their War of Independence in 1948. Despite being outnumbered and outgunned, they succeeded in repelling the armies of Iraq, Syria Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Lebanon. Just another example: If all of its Arab neighbors decided to strike at once, there is only one direction left for the Israelis to go: Into the sea. So they fight as if with their back against the wall.

My theory is that it has something to do with them being on an Island and being attacked over and over by Vikings, Romans, Brits, maybe others. The Scotts and Irish are though of as lazy potato eating drunks by many folks. They kept their culture in spite of attacks, amazing that they did. Maybe I even know a bit about HOW they did. Look out for the old desparite scottsman with a small tattered piece of cloth. Its a haunting Image to me. All cultures have their strengths. As far as what cultures would actually bash somebody on the head, scotts and vikings I think.

They just didn't get upset about dying for the cause...that's why they were as much of a pain in the *** for the English as muslim terrorists are being for the soft western world today. If they hadn't been willing and able to die, they'd have been flattened by greater numbers and better technology.
