do you mean that literally (that we are all the same but with different shades) or do you admit there is a cultural difference as well?

I ask because there are a lot of racial Q's in this section and alot of the answers result in saying something that the only difference is skin colour.

I do believe that there are cultural differences but I don't think they are limited to skin color. It is true that certain cultural circles are dominated by a certain skin color, but the behavior is the same. A white kid grows up in the ghetto, just because he is white doesn't mean he acts any different than the black kid and the Mexican kid sitting next to him. Same goes for upper society. If there is a Mexican family or black family living in the Hamptons that doesn't mean he will act the same as the Mexican kid from the ghetto just because he is Mexican.

In the end it does come down to the difference just being skin color and stereotypes. It all depends on how and where you were raised. But, there are always exceptions to the rule on all sides and with all colors.

No there is cultural differences. I guess when people say that we are all different on the outside, they mean that literally. Just physically different. You can almost tell who lives in what neighborhood if you only saw the things and not the people. You can most of the time tell by being inside someones home, thier culture by not even seeing them. I mean it's not a bad thing, it's just that we are all different in our own ways but as cultures we are almost the same. And for the racist questions and answers, those people who say those things are not really comfortable with who they are so to speak or someone elses culture wouldn't even matter to them. We can't help who we are born to. I mean as a black woman myself, I don't know exactly how I'd be if I ended up being the daughter or son of some other culture. So discrimination will get us no where. Where has it gotten people so far? Being racist doesnt change a thing, it just is a waste of thoughts and time.

There has to be cultural differences. That's why people fight so much. If there wasn't a difference between different cultures and what they value, then multiracial people like me would have a lot more acceptance from members of their own families.

I believe that concentrating on the areas where cultures overlap... those places of 'common ground' is a positive. Many cultures believe very similar things, it's just that different words are used to express their meaning and value. Maybe that's what people mean when they say the only difference is colour.

Translation: Concentrating on similarities while respecting the cultural differences may be part of the solution to people getting along. ~ Andrea
