not sure if you mean virus scanning with adaware or with mcafee.
adaware scans for spyware/malware its not a virus program.
but if you mean adaware pausing at some point, it could be you have the previous version (version 6 if i recall) the newer version is se (newest version out soon).
i remember that the older one did pause/stop at some points.

if you mean mcafee pausing at some point, it may be a problem with it. or a bug that has been fixed by way of update. try the mcafee site for help.

Ad-aware isn't a virus scanner - it's a spyware / adware scanner, and it's likely that Macaffee's the program that's stopping the scan.

I suggest you take out Macaffe (it's a resource hog), and get AVG as a virus scanner, and Spybot Search & Destroy to scan for adware / spyware. Both are free and easy to find.

You'll have less of a problem with viruses and spyware if you use Firefox - it's faster, more secure, more flexible and considerably more up to date.

I suggest that you try to carryout system restore to a day previous to the day when there was no virus. The problem is likely to be solved. Then,You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at

I recommend using AVG antivirus , its free and its very strong against the viruses. I would also recommend using spybot search and destroy. Both these programs work well and are free .

Avg can be found from the following link
