How were Pirates Ranked? Like what would the greatest pirate be called and from there down. I need about 4 different levels of authority. Please provide a name for the best pirate and then like a captain and then 3 ranks below a captain.

Different pirates had different systems
The most common way of ranking a pirate
evolved around how much of the divided up booty they got.
it has been said that
the captain recieved 2 shares
the first mate 1 & 1/2 shares
1 & 1/3 shares went to ship masters
(navigator, carpenter, boatswain, gunner)
1 & 1/4 shares went to plank owners still aboard
(plank owners were ordinary crewmembers who owned a share of the ship, often they were members of the original pirate crew that stole the ship, but a plank owner may have aquired a share of ownership for some other reason)
1 share went to all other ordinary sailors.
Pirate votes were said to be the same as their shares.
the captain getting two etc.

pirates mainly had a captain and someone that the crew voted for to act as their voice in how things were run, depending on the ship you might have 1st mates or something like that but usualy they just had a big meeting and voted on issues

Most pirates were democratic. But you could use British Navy rankings.

Captain, first mate, and mate. There was no "greatest pirate" out of them all.

The pirate community is just like any other gang. Study gangs to learn about pirates, study sailing to learn about sailing.

Not absolutely sure they had any. Pirates were fairly desperate criminals. The nastiest was the leader.

think people give to much weight to pirates and rank....
one in charge and rest pretty much fell in line.............
