I have dark hair and blue eyes and my ex had dark hair and dark brown eyes. My son came out with brown hair and blue eyes. I thought that brown eyed people usually have brown eyed or green eyed children? Does anyone know?

It will normally take a few months for their eyes to keep changing color. Our son had dark green eyes when he was born. A few weeks later he had blue, at 6 months they turned to brown. My husband and I are both dark haired with brown eyes. So is our son now.
A baby doesn't always have to take after parents though in eye color.
Good luck with the new little bundle of joy! :) Best wishes!

No that isn't true. Eye, hair, skin color, etc. is all determined by genetics. If anyone in either parents bloodlines has a certain eye color, then the baby could have it.
Example, I have a friend who is mostly african american with brown eyes and hair and so is the father. But their daughter has blue eyes.. the source was the mother's grandfather, who has blue eyes.

Anyone can inherit any trait from their grandparents or gret-grandparents. Some children don't resemble their parents at all! But it is most common for a child to inherit dominant genes. Their was a higher percent that your baby would have dark hair and brown eyes but their was that 25% chance he or she could end up with blue eyes. Either way, your childs hair and eye color could chane later in life.

Its all up to genetics. I dont even have the same blood type as anyone in my family. Its all a roll of the dice. One thing I can tell you is that the dominant trait usually wins but not all the time. Lets say both of you had dark hair and dark colored eyes but someone in your family, (whether it be mother or father or grandmother etc.), had light colored hair, your baby has the possibility of having light hair like them because it runs in your family somewhere. Like I said its all just a roll of the dice, you can never tell what characteristics or traits your child will have until they get older and you see for yourself. Hope this helps!

Most babies are born with blue eyes. It isn't until around six months do they get their normal eye colors.
You carry the traits for blue eyes and your ex probably had the recessive trait for blue eyes. Genetics are a funny thing. Dominate traits don't always win.
The majority of my family has blue eyes. My brother and myself have green eyes. My younger sister and my aunt are the only two with brown eyes. So you see genetics are funny.

Brown eyes are dominant, but sometimes your child take after the parent with the lighter colored eyes. My mom has dark brown eyes, and my dad has hazel blue eyes- my eyes are green. Go figure?

Your ex may have had a recessive blue eyed gene. Children come out with what they come out with. I believe what you are referring to is just what the majority has, but there are a lot of children that come out looking nothing like there parents because of recessive genes.
Also, blue eyes with dark hair is gorgeous! :)

Most babies don't have their true eye color until they are 12-18 months. Most Caucasian babies are born with blue-grey eyes, and then they change over time. It's always a surprise. Your baby may not have either of your eye colors, it all depends on what genes you have, whether dominant or recessive.

You said that people with brown eyes USUALLY have children with brown eyes, you're right, they usually do but not always. If you have blue eyes your son may have gotten your gene for blue eyes, though it is less dominant.

I know that it seems he should have been born with dark hair and hazel eyes, but sometimes the recessive genes win. My baby girl has blonde hair and blue eyes!! I'm half japanese with dark hair and hazel eyes and my husband has blonde hair and hazel eyes. Guess she got grandpa's baby blues ;)
