I know it might be weird that i'm asking for a good jazz record. But my friend really wants one for Christmas and i told her i'd get her a jazz record. So i need to know of a good one, because i don't really listen to that style of music. So any advice u have would help! thanks

As I was reading your question, I was also listening to this album. I think it's perfect for your friend. The playing is mostly fast., the musicians are really extreme in their playing. When ever you have two, and only two sax players on one stage, it tends to bring out the best of their extreme playing. I think this album is great, so do the people at allmusic.com-http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:rsuvadskt8wo

PS- If you are going to get a more popular artist instead, then get the Miles Davis album called Milestones, that's a real fast one, and good too.-http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:14ae4j175wal

I am major jazz fan...i have over 300 jazz cd's...if i had to pick one best jazz record i would blindly choose " The Complete Bitches Brew Sessions" box set by the legendry Miles Davis. Its fast paced and it also combines other elements outside of jazz like fusion and indian music. It is one phenomenal work of art. If you dont feel like buyin the box set you can also buy the original 2 cd pack. I hope you enjoy this record as much as i have. Other amazin jazz cd's are "A love Supereme" by John Coltrane, "The Black Saint and The Sinner Lady" by Charls Mingus, "The Complete Blue Note Recordings" by Thelonius Monk, "Groovin High" by Dizzie Gillespie..i can go on for ever. That was just old time jazz. If you ar elookin for some more Contemprary Jazz try "Modern Cool" by Patricia Barber, "Everyday" by The Cinematic Orchestra, "Tourist" by St.Germain or "Sounds from the Verve Hi-Fi" by Thievery Corporation. There are thousands of more amazing Jazz records but start with these and explore for yourself...you wont be dissapointed.

Anything by Miles Davis is good. The Rippingtons, David Benoit, Pat Methany, Kirk Whalum, Boney James, George Benson. Or pick a CD with all the best Jazz songs of the year.

I like Latin Jazz and Guitar - Al Dimeola - "Elegant Gypsy" and "Land of the Midnight Sun " are fantastic.
