The start depends on the type of pit viper. Some lay eggs, some give birth to live young.

So you'd have egg, hatchling, young, adult
or
embryo, neonate, young, adult

2) Snake grows up and move away from home
3) Snake gets seen (by me)
4) Snake loses head and meets his maker
