I have two that are memorable; they were both very hard years. The first was my Grandpa Wayne's last Christmas he got me my cow boy hat that year and my parents got him Mickey Mouse boxer shorts he got out of his hospital bed and went into grandma’s bedroom and put both on. He smiled so big when he came out of the bedroom wearing only his boxers and my cowboy hat and we all laughed. I think that was one of the last times I saw him smile. He passed away that valentine’s day. My next was my Papa's last Christmas. He had been sick about a month and had just gotten out of the hospital on the 23rd. There is a huge Blue Spruce in the back yard and I could always remember him saying he would like to see it decorated. So my sister and I snuck out at 3am on Christmas Eve and we decorated that tree with Lights and bells and little red bows. Now we grew up in Illinois and so on Christmas Eve at 3am it is freezing. However it brought a Smile to my Papa's face one of the only smiles we got that Christmas cause he was so sick he could not enjoy the holiday it was all just too much for him. The tree was never decorated before then and will not be decorated again, Grandma is thinking about having it cut down in fact. That year was the Trees Shining glory and Papa got to see it just the way he had wanted to see it. I do not think we could have given him a better present that year. He passed on the next month and the decorations stayed on the tree till around his birthday that year. Every time the wind blew the bells would ring and remind us. Those are my two most memorable though they were both bitter sweet they are still precious to me.

My father was very thrifty and hated spending alot of money for Christmas trees (real ones), so he made us wait longer and longer every year, hoping they'd be discounted, the closer it got to Christmas. Well one year, around 1973 he was especially scroogish, and he waited till Christmas Eve, and there were no trees left! Luckily, all of us were old enough to not believe in Santa anymore, we ranged in age from 10-18, so no one was devistated, but it was weird to have no tree. We set up the Nativity Creche in the spot where the tree normally went, and the day after Christmas we got a cheapo artificial tree on sale. But we still like to kid him about being such a grinch!

When I was in kindergarten and my parents surprised me and my sisters with a beagle puppy! His name was Bo and he had a huge red bow around his neck. We got him when I started school and he passed about a month after I graduated. I loved him so much!!!
