Silly girl! It's because so far we have let the guys make the rules! Think it might be time for a change?

Nice try monica, but your answer is incomplete... It is because in the past,(and I mean several hundred years), There was a trend for a socio-centric efinition of self. In that, a single member of a social group (or family) was actually defined by not only thier own actions, but of the actions of the group as a whole... As a result, it was important to protect the families honor, and part of that honor was contingent on a womens virginity before marriage. If a woman was not a virgin, and she married, the family she was married into would lose face because she was 'impure' and the family she came from would lose face because the group as a whole is defined by all the members in it...
I'm not saying it is right, but unfortunately, it tends to happen this way when dealing with Patriarchal (rule by men) social groups. And even sadder, is that in some parts of the world, this system is still in place.

Because society is corrupt. I don't think virginity should be valued for either, and I felt very discouraged and sad when people were so concerned with Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson's virginity status. What about their boyfriends at the time? No one asks the young male celebs (nor should they). Everyone needs to get over this virgin thing - being or not being a virgin doesn't suddenly make you a different person than you were before. Sex is not magical, and neither is virginity. I don't think everyone should be promiscuous, but waiting until marriage, when you think about it logically, usually has more of a downside than an upside.

Because girls are expected to stay untouched and innocent until the right guy comes along who is willing to marry them.
Probably since the dawn of man/womankind women have been seen as these fragile creatures who are best taken care of by capable men. While men are expected to gain experience so that they can "properly take care" of the girl they decide to be with.

There is a double standard, but it is changing. Unfortunately in the wrong direction. Anybody who is willing to wait for marriage should be proud of their decision, not ashamed of it.

They say a woman's body is like a temple.
I think it's got to do with being able to carry babies.
Also I think it's because woman's bit's are inside the body if you know what I mean.

Boys are warriors, the conquerors.
Girls are nurturers, the caregivers, the vessels of life; a divine responsibility.
Addendum: You know, I knew that I would get thumbs down for this answer. There really isn't a good answer to this question, but the question itself is reasonable. There really is no answer that I could give that wouldn't get a thumbs down.
