I love your country, regardless to what other folks might say. My time in France taught me a lot about your people and culture, and it showed me that people can be different. Some people cannot tolerate difference, so they hate. Yeah, your country is a lot like ours, and those who say otherwise either have a seperate opinion, or they have never truly seen France.
One must see the entire country in order to begin a major opinion upon the country's differences.
BTW, your English is good, keep it up.

Well, I have dealt with this question before from other people and I can speak about this with some experience to back me up.
I have never been to France, but I have been around French people many times in my travels around the world. I would say that just as there is a typical Cowboy persona that people perceive of Americans, which tends to be generally true, I think there are typical French who come off as elitists, as if to come across that everyone is lower class than they are. Of course its not ALL the French who think this way. Just as it is not all Americans who have this cowboy mentality. My dad in the 50s and 60s did travel to France and had an absolutely great time there, of course the man could speak French fluently which helped. My aunt went there in the 80s and said she had a horrible experience with many people there, mainly people in the service field, waiters, bell hops, etc... She could speak some French as well, but not as good as my father. And my aunt is in no way a rude or demanding person. So, I was taken aback at the time.
For all we know it could be that something happened politically between France and the USA between 1970 and now. And this may of somewhat strained relations between our two countries. You could perhaps think of it much along the way of how two sisters have been fighting for all these years, yet neither one knows why they started and neither one wants to say sorry, or what not.
I do think though that for the Bush administration to say we should call french fries Freedom Fries is very very arrogant and absolutely absurd. But hey, dont blame me, I voted for Al Gore.

Thank you for asking, and your English is much better than many of the answerers care to use. As for myself, I think France is a beautiful country, and would enjoy a visit. Most of my friends and family feel this way also. But some Americans feel as if French people dislike them, or are rude and condescending. Many are angry over the French Goverment's refusal to support the Iraq war. But all in all, it's mostly the French Goverment, I think, not the people, that Americans have problems with. Again, thank you for asking.

We don't hate the people. We don't hate the government. We don't respect the government. I am not clear on the history and when it started but I do not think it was the US that started the tension between the 2 nations. France has not done to well in the last few wars it was involved in and the US has stepped in and helped and I believe most French leaders do not appreciate that fact.

Here's my take:
Most Americans really don't have any problem with French people. Our attacks are usually aimed at the government level. Many of the things France does seems hypocritical to us. It seems to us France is always siding with Germany and against us and the UK. France is also more sectarian than the U.S.
France makes an easy target for cheap jokes due to the many recent failures of the French military. It seems like France lost its ability to finish a job ever since Napolean went down. Of course, thanks to the Democrats, America too is losing its ability to close out a war.
As for me, I like French people. All those I've met (with one exception) have been very friendly. I expected snootiness when I was in Paris but was pleasently surprised. And that French accent, oh mama. I just melt when I hear a French girl speaking English.

Your English is near perfect. We don't hate you. If anything, we don't like your government. Like someone said above, we just wished France would be a little more supportive. You guys just seem too neutral. Don't get me wrong, neutral is good, but it just seems like you side with other countries against us sometimes. Most Americans don't hate you. You were smart for not getting involved in the Iraq mess and the rude answers come from people who are embarassed about supporting the war in the first place and they are flipflopping and are trying to cover it up. I had French-Candian ancestors, and people don't hate me because I'm part French. if anything, the people who don't like France hate your government. But hey, many people don't like Bush. Peace.

When the French come to America, they are treated good. When Americans go to eat at a French restaurant, they are sometimes insulted by the waiter. French waiters, speak French and they think American's don't understand. Well many have been called names and made fun of , while they are ordering the French cusine. When Americans hear the French waiters, calling them names, or making fun of them in the French language, They just politely sit and pretend they don't understand. But we do. Why do the French do that to American tourists ? When French people come here, we are happy to have them.

Simply because we feel that the nation, of France, has no backbone. We have always been there to aid you, but when we ask for help, you deny it. Let it be known that it is not the people of France, but the government, that we do not care for. The same way that you should not judge or treat the citizens of America badly for the things that our government does.
We asked for your help, as our allies, in the war on terror. Your Government has done nothing to aid us. Therefore, the hostilities.
I hope that you understand this point of view and that your question is answered.
