I just finished watching it for the first time. Having seen the original Moulin Rouge I was put off by this version the first time I tried to watch it, but after giving this movie a chance, it turned out to be a really interesting and good movie. I would love to see it as a massive stage production.

BAZ LUHRMANN was the Director/Co-Writer/Producer of Both Moulin Rouge and Romeo & Juliet (leonardo dicaprio/claire daines) His sense of style and visual artistry in what he produces is as uniquely individual as they come. I think it honestly takes a certain eye and taste to enjoy his films (which I loved!) but certainly other viewers have had difficulty with the pace, overstimulation of the visual sets and many other distractions that can make it difficult to understand an even enjoy. I'm glad you liked it only at the second time around, since I am friends with many who had to see it 3 or 4 times for it to make any sense.

I don't think a stage play would do it justice without the hand of Baz involved!!

I was apprehensive about seeing it too and for the first 1/2 of the movie I thought it was really stupid. Then I started liking it. I felt that there were many more people that could have done the male lead more justice than Ewan MCGregor but he did an adequate job.

I too would like to see it done on the stage and the male lead should be played by Mario Frangoulis.

Interesting, very different, and for some reason when Ewen McGregor sings "Your Song" to Nicole Kidman it made my heart melt even though I can be quite a cynical b*tch!
